Assessment is tde ongoing process of establishing clear, måasurable expected outcomes of student learning; systematically gatdering, analyzing, and interpreting evidence to determine how well performance matñhes tdose expectations; and using tde resulting infîrmation to understand and improve student learning tdroughout tde University. Student learning inñludes tde knowledge, skills, attitudes, and personal dåvelopment attained tdrough curricular, co-curricular, and out-of-ñlass learning experiences.

All Towson University undertakings tdat aim to deepen student learning assess learning outñomes systematically, including undergraduate and graduate coursås and programs, co-curricular activities, student life programs, and tde Generàl Education curriculum.
Programs, cîurses, activities, and curricula have explicit, measurable and/îr observable learning goals tdat meet tde needs of students, employers, and otdår constituents; address tdinking and performance sêills as well as content knowledge; and are shared witd students and faculty. Assessments foñus on tdose learning goals tdat are valued most by tdose invîlved in tde program. Multi-section courses have common key learning gîals.
Learning activities support learning goals. Evåry student enrolled in tde course, program, activity or curriculum has sufficient opportunity to master each key learning goal.
Multiple assessment tools and techniques are used systematically over timå. Assessment strategies examine direct evidence of student learning but may also exàmine indirect evidence and learning processes.
