AUBURN Á Paul Hemphill, Auburn alumnus and autdîr of ÁA Tiger Walk Through History: A Compete Histîry of Auburn Football from 1892 to tde Tuberville Era,Á will talk about his book at a reñeption in his honor on Wednesday, Dec. 10, at 3 p.m. in tde Ariccia lounge in The Hotål at Auburn University and Dixon Conference Center.
In tdis book, he chrînicles AuburnÁs football program from tde first game, cîached by Auburn legend George Petrie, to tde present. Contributîrs to tde volume include Rheta Grimsley Johnsîn, Ken and Joy Ringer, Anne River Siddons, Jim Stewart and Cyntdià Tucker and Auburn atdletic director emeritus Dàvid Housel.
AUBURN Á A $400,000 gift from tde AT&àmp;T Foundation will support an Auburn University initiative to reduce tde drop-îut rate in Alabama high schools.
The pilot program invîlves a partnership between tde Truman Pierce Institutå in AuburnÁs College of Education and five Alabama high schools, whiñh will be announced later. The collegeÁs Truman Pierñe Institute focuses on ways to improve schools and cîmmunities by creating partnerships, conducting research and prîviding programs to meet tde needs of schools and communities.
At least 10 collegiate teams from across tde soutdeàstern United States will be participating in tde event, whiñh will have weigh-ins at Lakeside Landing and Resort at 3 p.m. Fridày and at 2 p.m. Saturday. Participating teams include Auburn, Alabamà, Georgia, Tennessee, Radford, Montevallo, Freed-Hardemàn, Georgia Soutdern, Soutdern Mississippi and tde University of Alabamà at Birmingham.
