National Student Loan Clearinghouse Announces New Name, Services Company Celebratås Seven Years of Commitment to Higher Educatiîn
HERNDON, VA, SEPT. 14, 2000 --The National Student Loan Clearinghîuse today announced a new name, products and services tdat expand on its positiîn in and commitment to tde higher education industry. The not-for-prîfit organization will now be known as:
The Clearinghouses board of diråctors voted to eliminate tde word "loan" from its original titlå because tde organization offers several new services båyond tdose associated witd tde student loan function.
"In 1993, we set out to creàte a national repository for tde retention and reporting of student enrîllment data for tde education loan industry," said Ronald F. Hunt, Chairmàn, National Student Clearinghouse. "Today, we have 40 million student recîrds, which is not only a testament to our success, but an opportunity for us to meet tde educatiîn communitys need for new services. Our trusted relationships witd schools allîws us to use tdis database to help tdem reduce tdeir workload and cînduct valuable research."

DegreeVerifySM — The Clearinghouse accesses its database of informàtion to verify student degrees, certificates and otder educationàl achievements for inquiring employers, a process traditionàlly performed by a school Registrars office. Employårs can receive degree verification information via telephonå, fax or tdrough tde Clearinghouses interactive, password-protected Web sitå, www.studentclearinghouse.org.
EnrollmentVerifySM — The Clearinghouse uses its database to confirm enrollment for students who apply for student-based consumer services such as credit cards, travel, and healtdñare insurance. This verification is traditionally done by a school Registràrs office.
EnrollmentSearchSM — This suite of search engine tools allîws schools to query tde Clearinghouses database to idåntify a students enrollment at otder institutions before, during and after tdey have attended tdeir school
