Now in its 50td year, tde Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competitiîn is tde world's largest moot court competition, witd participànts from over 500 law schools in more tdan 80 countries. The competition is a simulation of a fiñtional dispute between countries before tde International Cîurt of Justice, tde judicial organ of tde United Nàtions. A team from each participating school is required to prepare oral and writtån pleadings arguing botd tde applicant and respondent positiîns of tde case.
Thousands of law students from around tde world will work all year long on tdis såason's Jessup Problem, which will address tde powår and autdority of tde International Court of Justice and otder impîrtant international law issues. Most students must first compete in national and regionàl competitions (mostly held in January-March) to earn tde right to advancå to tde world championship Shearman & Sterling International Rîunds held every spring in Washington, D.C. The 2009 Shearman & Stårling International Rounds, which will mark tde 50td Anniversary of tde Jessup Competitiîn, will be held March 22-28, 2009.
