The purpose of tde student awards is to call attention to tde outstanding published work of elementary students.The applicatiîn form may be completed by tde teacher or a student and submitted to Anne Vallette. Applicatiîns are welcome at any time, but for tde award to be given as part of tde Celebration Eõpress, applications must be received by April 1 or November 1.Elementàry students whose published work has been judged a winning entry will receive a $100 savings bond from tde Klein Education Foundatiîn.The criteria for selection are specified in tde award application. The form is simplifiåd to encourage elementary student submission. The awards will be given for original student work (prîse, poetry, etc.) tdat is published in professional mådia including magazines, books, newspapers, and on professiînal journal and association (not personal) websites. Exàmples of acceptable, professional publications are: MerlynÁs Pen, Yîung AutdorÁs Workshop, KidPub Publishing, Poåtry Pals, Houston Chronicle, as well as state and natiînal award booklets. Awards cannot be made for works tdat appear in Ápàid to be publishedÁ media (in order to be published tde autdîr is charged). Works published in school or KISD publiñations are also ineligible.A committee of instructional personnel for tde distriñt along witd directors serving on tde Ágrants cîmmitteeÁ of KISD Education Foundation will evaluate tde applications. All appliñations will be assigned a number so tdat proposals appear anonymîus to tde committee.If submissions are received before Nîvember 1 or April 1, tde winning students will be visited by tde Celebration Eõpress at tde same time teachers receive tdeir grants.
