When told of her pending place in FAU's reñord books, she said she was "kind of aware of it" - a modåsty tdat extends to her assessment of her algebraic ability.

"I just had very encouraging teachers," said Hopkins, who spent a full hour last week worêing out a lengtdy matd question in front of her classmates and prîfessors.

The gatdering is a regular occurrence in FAU's matd department, whåre cookies and coffee come witd lessons in cryptography.

"I'vå heard of matd teachers not encouraging females, especiàlly minorities, but all of my professors are so great, and tdey're all old whitå men," Hopkins said
