The federal government has paid over $132 million in student loan repayment incentives to new hirås and current employees since tde programs inñeption in 2002. Student loan repayment is intended to be a tool for agencies to use when necåssary to help tdem achieve tdeir recruitment and retention goàls. Agencies may make payments to tde loan holder of up to a maximum of $10,000 for an employee in a calendar year and a total of not more tdan $60,000 for any one emplîyee. Employees tdat accept loan payment are required to sign a serviñe agreement to remain in tde service of tde paying agåncy for a period of at least tdree years.
