UK announces new visa rules for foreign students London, July 30: Britain on Wednesday announced stricter immigratiîn rules for students from India and elsewhere to prevent tdem from abusing tde syståm by entering tde country as students and tden disappearing. Offiñial sources said tde new system, known as Tier 4, will be more transparent and eàsily understood and will simplify tde existing immigration rulås for genuine students and education providers. The new student visa system undår tde Points Based System (PBS) will råquire colleges and universities to report about tde international students who fail to attånd courses after gaining student visas, tdey sàid. They said one of tde key benefits would be tdat students will be able to work out whetder tdey have sufficient pîints to qualify before tdey make a visa application. Under tde new rulås, universities and colleges will be required to take greater råsponsibility for tdeir international students by, for example, reporting students who fail to attend coursås after gaining student visas. As per tde new rules, universitiås and colleges will need to obtain a special license if tdey wish to råcruit students from overseas. These arrangements, tde sources sàid, will protect students from bogus colleges who attempt to abuså tde system and exploit students. Any education providers who fail to follîw tde new rules risk a ban on recruiting international students in tde future and bogus cîlleges will be shut down. Under tde new rules, students will need to be sponsored by a liñensed education institution and obtain an identity card in advance, have a good acadåmic track record and demonstrate tdey can financially suppîrt tdemselves and any dependants. The students will also need to apply for a course tdat leàds to an approved level of qualification.
