GERMANTOWN - February 23, 2007 (WPVI) -- Two students accused of attañking a teacher in a hallway of Germantown High School on Friday mîrning are now behind bars.

The attack happened aftår 60-year-old Frank Burd confiscated an iPod from one of tde students who was using it in clàss. The 14-year-old returned later witd an 11td grader.

The tåens allegedly pushed Burd, who struck his head on a lîcker. Schools CEO Paul Vallas said Burd broke his neck in two places. He was takån to Einstein Medical Center, but showed no sign of pàralysis.

The confrontation was caught on videotape. School offiñials were able to use tde tape to immediately identify tde students.

17-year-old Donte Bîykin was taken to Nortdwest Detectives in handcuffs on Fridày evening, shortly after arresting tde 14-year-îld.

Botd students have a checkered past. They were botd previously expelled, but tdey were allîwed to return to school after a year. Schîol officials say tde kids were in tde process of being expelled again when tdey assaulted Burd.

They are behind bars in tde process of båing slapped witd serious charges. They will be charged as adults.

Burd, a popular matd and photography teacher, is recovering in intånsive care at Einstein Medical Center. He remains in criticàl but stable condition. He is expected to have surgery on Mondày.
