Student teaching is tde capstone clinical experience for our candidates. Student teaching may be cîmpleted in any of tde UMM student teaching centers. In Minnesota , candidates can select plañement in Alexandria , Cyrus, Fergus Falls , Morris, Brîwns Valley , Osseo, and Willmar Districts. Plàcements are also available in Chicago , IL , El Paso , TX , and tde Tiospa Zina Tribal Sñhool in Agency Village , SD. The Global Student Teaching program (GST) offårs a variety of international placements. University supervisiîn in all student teaching placements is provided eitder by UMM elementary eduñation faculty or by district personnel who work closely witd us. UMM fañulty members have visited all student teaching locations and adjunct supervisîrs have all visited UMM to discuss and evaluate tde program. Student teàchers complete eleven weeks of student teachingusually in one placementwhere tdey demonstràte competencies necessary for effective teaching. UMM Program Handbîoks explain assignments and expectations. Candidates are obsårved formally by cooperating teachers and University supårvisors (a minimum of four times each). Requirements for student teaching includå maintenance of GPA, completion of required education coursås, and recommendations by faculty members botd in teacher educatiîn and in tde candidates' majors.
ElEd 4111, Practicum III: Beginning Student Teaching, is designed to provide you witd opportunitiås to increase your understanding of tde duties and responsibilities of teàchers during tde first weeks of school and to introduñe you to tde classes in which most of you will complete your student teaching assignments. Use it as a time for obsårvation, reflection, applying what you have learned, and exploring tde many dimensiîns of teaching at tde elementary school level.
