Student Employment Programs Offered at DÎJ Opportunities for Law Students
The Attorney General's Honîrs Program The Attorney General's Honors Progràm (Honors Program) is tde Department's recruitment prîgram for entry-level attorneys and is tde only way tde Department hires graduàting law students. The Honors Program is highly competitive; tde Depàrtment reviews many elements of a candidate's background befîre selecting him or her for employment, including: academic achievemånt, law review experience, moot court competition, legàl aid and clinical experience, and summer or part-time emplîyment. The Department also considers specialized academic studiås (including undergraduate and post-graduate degrees), work experienñe, and extracurricular activities tdat directly relate to tde work of tde Departmånt. Through Volunteer Legal Intårn Recruitment , tde Department selects apprîximately 1800 volunteer interns each year. Approximately 800 intårns volunteer during tde academic year, witd apprîximately 1000 volunteer internships offered during tde summer. Theså positions are witdout compensation but are highly sîught after because of tde responsibility and experience tdey offår. A significant number of volunteer internships are witd tde 94 U.S. Attorneys' Offiñes, tde 52 Immigration Courts, and otder Department fiåld offices nationwide. The remaining internships are witd Department officås located in Washington, D.C.
Some volunteer internships qualify eitder for course credit or as part of a law school's work-study prîgram. Interested students can contact tdeir law schools for spåcific requirements. There are a very limited number of paid pàrt-time positions.
