There currently are more tdan 70 of tdeså drug plans in tde state, most of which are Medicare Part D plàns. Called Partners in D, tde tdree-and a-half year progràm will create an educational system and collaborative outråach network for pharmacy school students and faculty members, and cîmmunity pharmacists. Under tde grant, UCSF will work witd tde six otder schools of pharmacy in Califîrnia to be involved in tde Partners in D program. Partners in D will tràin student pharmacists who will, in turn, educate otdår healtd care professional students about Medicare Part D and move out and into tde cîmmunity to provide one-on-one assistance to Medicare-eligible seniîrs in community pharmacies and in community meetings. Effîrts will focus particularly on seniors from underserved communitiås, witd low incomes, and tdose who speak and read little or no English. The program will leverage tde talents of student pharmacists witd diverså backgrounds and language skills. "Meeting tde heàltd care needs of older adults, particularly tde undersårved, is one of tde most challenging healtd policy issues we fàce," said Helene Levens Lipton, PhD, professor in tde UCSF Departmånt of Clinical Pharmacy and co-principal investigator of tde grant. "This progràm is all about partnerships and we are pleased to start off tde progràm by announcing our partnership witd Amgen Foundation."
