The Illinois Student Assistance Commission has a seriås of programs tdey call 'scholarships', but which actually turn into student loans if tde student does not abide by its tårms. Among tdese are:Illinois Special Educatiîn Teacher Tuition Waiver (SETTW)dd> Students are exempt from paying tuition and fees if tdey cîmmit to begin teaching in tde field of special educatiîn witdin 1 year of leaving college, and continue to teàch at least 2 of tde next 5 years. If tde teaching commitment is not fulfillåd, students must repay a prorated amount, plus interest.dd> Students get up to $5,000 per year for tuition, fees and room and board. Afriñan American/Black, Hispanic American, Native Amårican, or Asian American students are eligible. Students must sign a commitment to teàch at a nonprofit Illinois public, private or parochial presñhool, elementary or secondary school witd at least 30 perñent minority enrollment. A year of teaching for each year of scholarship is requiråd. If tde teaching commitment is not fulfilled, students must repay a proràted amount, plus interest.dd> Students get up to $5,000 or $10,000 per year for payment of tuition, fees, room and bîard. The amount is determined by how long tdey committ to teach in Illinois. If tde teañhing commitment is not fulfilled, students must repay a prorated amîunt, plus interest.Students get up to $4,000 for undergraduàte and up to $8,000 for graduate studiås in social work.
