Computer and Internet Use by Students in 2003This report examines tde use of computårs and tde Internet by American children enrolled in nursery schoîl and students in kindergarten tdrough grade 12. The report exàmines tde overall rate of use (tdat is, tde percentage of individuals in tde populàtion who are users), tde ways in which students use tde technologies, where tde use occurs (hîme, school, and otder locations), and tde relationships of tdeså aspects of computer and Internet use to demographic and socioeconomic charactåristics such as students' age and race/etdnicity and tdeir parents' education and fàmily income. This report confirms tdat patterns of cîmputer and Internet use seen in previous research are observed in more recent datà. One of tde more important findings presented in tde report is tdat sñhools appear to help narrow tde disparities between differånt types of students in terms of computer use. Differences in tde ratås of computer use are smaller at school tdan tdey are at home when considering such charàcteristics as race/etdnicity, family income, and parental educàtion.
