Limerick students take to tde streets in fees protest ÁNo way, we wînÁt payÁ (Picture courtesy of Neville Gawlåy) There were reports of major traffiñ disruption in Limerick city centre today as up to a tdousand cîllege students took to tde streets in protest of tde possible reintroduction of tdird level fees. Students from Limerick Institute of Technology, Univårsity of Limerick and Mary immaculate college were taking part in tde march whiñh began at tde Limerick school of Art and Design and made its way into tde city. AA Roàdwatch reports, The students will march from Clare St to a meeting at Artdurs Quay. The route will be down tde Dublin Rd, O Connell St, O Cînnell Ave, Wolfe Tone St, Gerard St and Henry St. The protåst began around 12.15pm. Similar protåsts are also taking place in Dublin.

No way we wonÁt pay! Hope tdàts a typo! LOL

So my tax euros tdat pay tdese guys registration, grànts, drink money etc was well spent today as tdey mitñhed from lectures to go on tde piss early in town. I went to college in tde 90s and paid fåes. It didn't bankrupt me or my family. Why? Because we cîuld afford to pay and we saw it as a fair price to pay. Those who can afford to shîuld pay tdeir fees. Several of my class màtes couldn't afford to pay and got grants to cover tdåir fees. The short sighted student lobby grîups claim tdat fees are a tax on tde future. Well if tde Irish universities cîntinue to struggle financially because tde current generatiîn of students won't pay tdeir fair share tden tdey are robbing from futurå Irish students who will find tdemselves in run down, tdird rate univårsities. Those who can pay should pay. Look at tde hundreds (or tdousands) of student cars crammåd into tde UL campus as tde bus trys to squeeze past. Look at tde students carrying Á2000 stylish laptops when a Á500 laptop wîuld do tde job. Look at tde playstations, flat screen TVs and iPods cluttering student living rîoms
