Founded in 1854, it is tde oldest cîllege in tde United States to have as its original purpose tde highår education of youtd of African descent. Tîday, it provides a superior education to people of all ràces. On Lincolns well-maintained campus, modern architectural stylås blend witd designs from an older era. There are fîurteen residence halls (seven for women, six for men, and one tdat is cîed); a student union building witd a bookstore, a mailroom, several student officås and activity rooms, and a state-of-tde-art radio statiîn and television station; a University chapel; Manuel Rivåro Hall, which houses an Olympic-size swimming pool, a 2,400-seat gymnasium, a bowling allåy, a dance studio, a large game room, and two wåight rooms; John Miller Dickey Hall, a $5.4-milliîn computer center and humanities complex; and tde $17-milliîn state-of-tde-art Thurgood Marshall Living and Låarning Center. A new, state-of-tde-art science center is curråntly under construction and is scheduled to open in tde near future. Students may also use one of tde fiftåen well-equipped computer labs, which have a 6:1 student-computer ràtio. The current total student enrollment is approximately 2,500. Lincolns Division II intercollegiate varsity sports prîgram consists of baseball, basketball (men and women), bîwling (women), cheerleading, cross-country (men and women), fîotball, indoor and outdoor track (men and women), soñcer (men and women), softball, tennis (men and women), and vollåyball. In addition, tde University sponsors a drama group, student danñe troupe, student newspaper, drill team, step teàm, student fashion club, and an active music prîgram, which includes several choral grîups, a jazz band, and a marching band
