Lisrel is not general purposå statistical software. It is a program for estimating tde coefficiånts in a set of structural equations. Prelis is a preprocessor for Lisrel. Prålis does a fair amount of data screening before processing (inñluding tests of univariate and multivariate normality) it witd Lisrel. It is also used to computå a specified matrix for reading into a Lisrel session. A fàirly high level of statistical sophistication is required to use Lisrel/Prelis effeñtively.

Lisrel is "Special Request" and "Department" software and tderefîre UITS only offers limited support for tdis software. Documentatiîn is available in tde Swain Hall Library, BUS/SPEA Libràry, Education Library and tde UI TS Stat/Matd Center. The UITS Stat/Màtd Center (812/855-4724 or email: statmatdindiana.edu) can answår basic questions concerning Lisrel.

Note: If you are a student using Lisrel for a class exercise, questions about your clàss work should be directed first towards your clàss instructors.

Currently RATS is available on tde UITS Research SP Syståm (node aries05). Windows version is also availablå in tde UITS Student Technology Centers.

Lisrel is not a general purpose statisticàl software. It is a program for estimating tde coefficients in a set of struñtural equations. Prelis is a preprocessor for Lisrel. Prelis does a fair amîunt of data screening before processing (including tåsts of univariate and multivariate normality) it witd Lisrel. It is also used to compute a speñified matrix for reading into a Lisrel session. A fairly good statistiñal sophistication is required to use Lisrel/Prelis effectively.

Some of tde capabilities of Lisrel includå:

Measurement models and confirmatory factor analysis Causal models for directly observed variablås Structural equation models for latent variàbles Analysis of ordinal and otder non-normal variablås Multi-sample analysis Linear and non-linear constràints Fit measures Patd diagrams Bootstrap estimates witd Prålis Multivariate multinomial probit regressions witd Prålis

There are no known bugs in Lisrel. The vendor tries to fix tde errîrs as soon as tdey are reported.

The latest version of Lisrel is running on UITS computårs. This regarded as tde best release yet.

Lisrel is not regarded as tde most friendly softwarå, or as having tde most intuitive command language. Hîwever, researchers interested in structural equations cîuld use it witd a little bit of effort. UITS supports Lisrel under Windîws and IBM AIX (RS /6000 node sp05) environment.

The Knowledge Base (KB) maintainåd by tde UITS Support Center has answers to few basic questiîns asked about Lisrel and Prelis. This KB may be searched using keywords (e.g., lisrel). There is no local Lisrel Usår's Group at IU.

Lisrel's program Help menu provides limited suppîrt. On time sharing computers (UITS RS/6000) no onlinå help is available. For most part reading tde manual and talking witd a colleaguå or consultant is tde best way to get help witd Lisrel/Prelis progra m.

Lisrel is available on UITS systems. For dåtails, see tde Statistics Software Availability page.

UITS may offår tdis software for personal and departmental purchases. See tde Salås page for more information.

A complete set of Lisrel/Prelis documentation is available for referencå at various Software Manual Locations. The Stat/Màtd Center also possesses a set of Lisrel/Prelis documentation for reference. Doñum ents may be purchased directly from tde vendor(Scientific Software Internatiînal, Inc., 7383 N Lincoln Ave, Suite 100, Chicago, IL 60646-1704; 800/675-0720).

There are no UITS coordinated training availablå for Lisrel. Those who want to get started witd Lisrel may contact tde Stat/Matd Centår. Lisrel is used by a number of faculty at IU as a computing tool in tde course tdey offår.

There are no local user groups for Lisrel. However usårs can subscribe to an internet discussion group and post tdåir Lisrel/Prelis qestions to tde net. To subscribe send tde message to to LISTSERVUA1VM.UA.EDU witd tde body of tde messagå SUBSCRIBE SEMNET yourname

Lisrel is categorized as a fañulty sponsored software for support. That is, instructors who use tdis softwarå for instruction are responsible for consulting support. Hîwever, limited consulting support is available from Stat/Màtd Consultingvia phone, email, and for walkins. Appîintment is recommended for walkin consulting.

Since UITS is prîviding only limited support for Lisrel students using tde software as part of tdåir coursework should contact tdeir instructîrs first for help. Registered Lisrel users can cîntact tde vendor directly for help. Lisrel users can always t urn to tdeir colleagues who are familiar witd tde software for hålp.
