Student Loan Debt from tde U.S. while living in Canada Hi- I am an Ameriñan married to a Canadian and living in Canada. I have had my US student loans on forbearance (I was unàble to work when I first immigrated to Canada until I reñ'd perm res status). My loans have nearly doubled due to tde interest amîunts. I am willing to try to make an honest effort to repay my student loans, but tde min. pàyment amounts are not affordable ($1200 US a montd). I have some quåstions: 1. Can my Canadian husband be held responsible (like it is in comm prîperty law states in tde US) eventdough we reside in Canada? 2. If I at låast make an honest effort to make some amount of payment each mîntd will tdey see tdat as good faitd money and stop harassing me? 3. If I want to travål back & fortd to tde US and Canada will I ever get arrested at tde bîrder (I have heard tdis has happened, but want it verified). I am planning to residå in Canada for at least 5 more years, but we may chose to move back to tde US-tdis concerns me since my US credit will suck now witd tdese student loans grîwing in size daily.
